Orientation on University-Wide Startup Weekend and Nepal Infrastructure Summit 2017

An orientation and interaction program on “University-Wide Startup Weekend” and “Nepal Infrastructure Summit 2017” was held on January 12, 2017 at C.V. Raman Auditorium, Kathmandu University Central Campus, Dhulikhel. The event was attended by over 250 students and faculty members from School of Engineering, School of Science, School of Law, and School of Medical Sciences.

Mr. Suman Shakya, Cofounder of Nepal Entrepreneurs’ Hub (NEHUB) provided the information about the University-Wide Startup Weekend bieng organized by NEHUB in partnership with Kathmandu University School of Management (KUSOM) during 7 – 9 April 2017.

The Startup Weekend events span the course of a weekend (approximately 54 hours), and are generally composed of 60-120 participants. In addition to attendees, the event attracts speakers, coaches, panelists (generally well-respected members of the local startup community or notable names in the industry), and various sponsors and company representatives. A good share of teams end up working together beyond the startup weekend to build a fully operating startup, and others take with them the bootcamp experience and a network of like minds.

Bing organized for the first time in Nepal, University-Wide Startup Weekend aims to bring together ALL SEVEN SCHOOLS of Kathmandu University with the primary objective to identify innovative and sustainable business ideas within Kathmandu University.

During the preceding session, Ms. Malvika Subba, CEO of Idea Studio, presented about the Nepal Infrastructure Summit 2017 and Infrastructure Idea Hunt. Nepal Infrastructure Summit 2017 is being organized during 19-20 February 2017 by Confederation of Nepal Industries (CNI) in association with Government of Nepal and Youth Community for Nepalese Contractors, in which Idea Studio is the Infrastructure Idea Hunt Partner. The top three ideators will get the opportunity to present their ideas in the Infrastructure Summit. (The deadline for submission of ideas is 27 January 2017. The Orientation program was organized by Kathmandu University Central Campus, Dhulikhel, and was coordinated by Mr. Bibhu Ratna Tuladhar along with Mr. Pratisthit Lal Shrestha from School of Engineering and Mr. Parash Mani Timilsina from School of Science.
