Recent symposium and workshop attended by Dr. Kayastha

The Coordinator of the HiCCDRC Dr. Rijan Bhakta Kayastha participated in the First International Symposium on Climate Change Adaptation Strategies for Asia and the Pacific which was held on 23 and 24 November 2009 in . The symposium was organized by the for Climate Change (KACCC), Korea Environment Institute. He gave a talk on the “Climate change impacts, adaptation and future needs in . The workshop was sponsored by the UNEP and conducted by the . Dr. Kayastha gave a talk on the “Changing Climate over Nepalese Himalayas and Impact on Glaciers.”

The workshop participants are of the opinion that the IPCC conclusion that the Himalayan glaciers could melt by 2035 is not based on scientific studies. The participants, however, wanted to emphasize that this does not, in any way, reduce the need for mitigation of, and adaptation to, climate change that has been initiated by the international community.
