KU Wins Prime Minister Cup Inter University Tournament

Kathmandu University (KU) has become champion of the First Prime Minster Cup University Level National Sports Tournament 2016 winning four gold, four silver and five bronze medals. A squad comprising 41 members led by Dr. Dhurva Gauchan, Associate Director, Student Welfare and representative and member of the organizing committee had participated in volleyball (boys), basketball (boys), badminton (boys and girls), table tennis (boys and girls) and chess (boys).

KU players dominated table tennis with gold and silver medal sweeps: Sujan Panta and Deepika Shrestha won gold in singles event for boys and girls, respectively; Sujan Panta and Abin Prajapati clinched gold medal in boys double; and, Deepika Shrestha and Rejsha Khoteja won gold medals in girls double. Likewise, Abin Prajapati and Rejsha Khoteja secured silver medal in boys and girls singles, respectively.

In badminton too, KU players performed well winning four medals. Rikesh Shrestha and Bhupendra R. Giri won silver in boys double, and Bhupendra and Rikesh received bronze in singles. Gyanu Giri bagged bronze medal in girls single, and the duo of Gyanu Giri and Ishu Adhikari won bronze in girls double.

KU team stood second in basketball tournament. Another silver medal was won in chess team event: Usav Prajuli, Ashish Shrestha, Roshan Kasti and Rupesh Dangol were the members of chess team.  


The tournament organized by National Sports Council from 11 to 13 July had brought more than 280 students from eight different Universities to participate in five sports disciplines – volleyball, basketball, badminton, table tennis and chess.
