Confucius Institute at KU celebrates Chinese Teachers’ Day

On September 9th, 2012, Confucius Institute at KU (CIKU) celebrates the 28th Chinese Teachers’ Day at KUSOM where CIKU is located. In China September 10th is Teachers’ Day. Madame Wang Lixin, Deputy Chief of Mission at Chinese embassy in Nepal, Madame Zou Bin, Chief of Cultural Section at Chinese embassy in Nepal, Mr. Suresh Man Shrestha, Secretary at the Ministry of Education, attended the function along with all the Chinese teachers, Prof. Dr. Mahesh Banskot, Dean School of Arts, Dr. Sagar Raj  Sharma  and principals from Little Angels School, Venus Public School and Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management (NATHM). They exchanged Teachers’ Day greetings and views of about Chinese language learning.

At the programme, Zhang Shubin, Chinese director at the CIKU, introduced Chinese Teachers’ Day and Chinese language teaching and learning in global context, stating that in some countries like India, USA, Britain and Australia have included Chinese language in their curricula. He made a proposal to the Ministry of Education to introduce Chinese as a foreign language in Nepali schools.

Madame Wang Lixin, Deputy Chief of Mission at Chinese embassy in Nepal expresses her thanks to all those who have contributed to Chinese language teaching and Chinese culture promotion in Nepal, and hopes more and more Nepalis will know better about China through Chinese language learning.

Secretary at the Ministry of Education Suresh Man Shrestha said that learning Chinese could benefit Nepalis, suggesting that Chinese language teaching be expanded in Nepal by the Chinese teachers’ efforts.
