The Architecture Department of Khwopa Engineering College (KhEC) organized 3D Model Competition on the occasion of the Bhaktapur Mahotsav 2081, the 23rd Anniversary of Khwopa Engineering College (KhEC), and the 16th Anniversary of Khwopa College of Engineering (KhCE). The competition focused on themes highlighting the heritage and traditional construction technology of various regions in Nepal. Participants created models depicting heritage structures, indigenous construction techniques, vernacular buildings, or other relevant designs. Each model, with a base area not exceeding 3'x4', was crafted by groups of up to five students. The 3D models were exhibited during the Bhaktapur Festival 2081 and the Educational Exhibition held from 28 Mangsir to 2 Poush.

The evaluation of the models took place on 1 Poush, Monday, followed by the prize distribution on 2 Poush, Tuesday. The competition provided a platform for students to showcase their creativity, technical skills, and understanding of traditional and vernacular architecture, fostering an appreciation for Nepal's rich architectural heritage.

The winners of the competition were Ashwini Malla, Ankit Shrestha, Sanjeev Manandhar, Drishti Manandhar, and Aabhuson Shrestha, the architecture students from the Department of Architecture, Kathmandu University. They designed a model of Bhupi Sherchan’s house in Tukuche, Mustang.

Bhupi Sherchan’s house in Tukuche, Mustang, is a representation of traditional Thakali architecture, reflecting the cultural identity of the region. Constructed using local materials such as stone, timber, and mud plaster, the house features a distinct flat roof, intricately carved wooden windows, and a central courtyard, all typical of the region’s vernacular design. The structure not only served as a residence but also stood as a cultural landmark, embodying the architectural wisdom and craftsmanship of the Thakali community. The winning model beautifully captured these elements, emphasizing the importance of preserving such heritage structures.
