Workshop on Condition Monitoring of Electrical Equipment

Kathmandu University and Tribhuvan University Institute of Engineering jointly organized a Need-Assessment Workshop on the topic Condition Monitoring of Electrical Equipment on 31st January 2023. The workshop had participants from Kathmandu University Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Institute of Engineering (TU), power, energy and manufacturing industries.

The workshop was organized as a part of the local stateholder meeting of the project “Capacity Enhancement in Electrical Equipment Condition Monitoring and Fault Diagnostics (CEEECoM)”, cofounded by the European Union under the ERASMUS+ program. Aalto University, Finland, Tallinn University of Technology, Estonia and Royal University of Bhutan are other partners in the project.

The objectives of the project is to assess the condition-monitoring and fault diagnostics needs of the power industries (for power plants equipments like generators, transformers, excitation system, protection etc) and manufacturing industries (for motors, actuators, etc), and to modernize/enhance the practicality of the relevant courses in our engineering curriculum. The project will also conduct training tailored for specific industrial condition monitoring needs. This will help Nepal to produce in-house experts in the field of condition monitoring of power and industrial equipment.

The workshop focused on the current status of the condition monitoring in the industries, their challenges and their expectations from the project as well as the academia to tackle the challenges. The workshop saw an enthusiastic participation from the industrial stakeholders.

Assistant Professor Dr. Bishal Silwal from Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering is leading the project from Kathmandu University.
