The Second International Conference on Transformative Educational Research and Sustainable Development Successfully Concluded
Kathmandu University School of Education in collaboration with UNESCO Chair in Adult Literacy at the University of East Anglia together with the support from UNESCO Kathmandu, and Ministry of Education, Science and Technology organised the Second International Conference on Transformative Educational Research and Sustainable Development from October 6-8, 2018 at Kathmandu University Dhulikhel. Under the theme of Promoting Context-Responsive Wisdom and Knowledge for Sustainable Futures, the Conference received altogether 215 abstracts from which 120 oral presentations, 8 interactive workshops, 25 posters were selected through a rigorous review process. Additionally, the Conference witnessed 7 keynote presentations from experts engaged in transformative educational research, research in indigenous knowledge systems, adult literacy, personal well-being, and holistic and contemplative education.
Whereas the Conference provided early career as well as senior researchers and practitioners with opportunities to share their ongoing research and practice, delegates from 20 different countries representing Universities, governments, charitable institutions, community organisations, development partners, and research and development institutions used the Conference to build and expand their networks. During the conference the International Transformative Education Research Network (ITERN) was formed under the Chair and Vice Chair of Professors Peter Taylor and Bal Chandra Luitel. The present ITERN Committee shall be functional until the Third TERSD. The ITERN shall continue to expand networks for research and development activities within and beyond the partner institutions.
The ITERN Committee has also decided that the Third Conference shall be organised in Nepal in 2021. The Conference theme, dates and venue shall be announced in the beginning of 2019.
