Seminar on Application of Biotechnology in Industries held

Department of Biotechnology, Kathmandu University (KU)Application of Biotechnology in Industries” held on 16-17 February 2009 at Kathmandu University International Center (KUIC), Dhulikhel.

The main objectives of the seminar were to explore the application, scopes and prospective of biotechnology in Nepal by means of meticulous discussion and interaction followed by priceless suggestions from the experts in related areas.

In the seminar, renowned academicians, scientists and entrepreneurs working in different fields of biotechnology were present. It was chaired by Dr. Janardan Lamichhane, HOD, Department of Biotechnology, KU. In the inaugural session Prof. Dr. Panna Thapa, Dean of School of Science, KU, spoke on challenges in biotechnology form academics perspective. Enlightening the seminar, the chief guest- Prof. Dr. Dayananda Bajracharya, gave a marvelous speech comparing the science in the 20th and the 21st century and also stressed that professionals should be responsible and continuously try to advance in his particular field.  Prof. Suresh Raj Sharma, VC, KU focused on the utilization of available infrastructure and resources. Also Prof. Dr. Tika Bahadur Karki shed light on the challenges of applied biotech form an industrial perspective. Closing the inaugural session Dr. Janardan Lamichhane highlighted some developments at Department of Biotechnology, KU and also gave a brief introduction to M.S. by research in Biotechnology program.
