His Excellency Mr. Kunio Takahashi, Ambassador of Japan to Nepal made a visit to Kathmandu University on 4^th April, 2012 to take part in Interaction and experience sharing of MEXT Japan Study Program.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Suresh Raj Sharma welcomed Mr. Takahashi at the University. Dr. Sharma envisaged the mission and vision of Kathmandu University and recalled Japanese donors' support for physical facility development of the University. KU’s first building ‘Yamaji Block’ was built with the support of Yamaji Fumiko Culture Foundation, Japan; and the 'Pharmacy Block' was also supported by Japanese citizen Mr. Komatsubara Kenji.

To his address, Ambassador Takahashi recalled historical tie up between Japan and Nepal. Japanese monk, Ekai Kawaguchi, for the first time had visited Nepal in 1899. Since then there has been very close relationship between two countries. Today, Nepal is the ninth largest country whose citizens are studying in several Japanese Universities.  There exist strong possibilities for further collaboration between Japanese Universities and Kathmandu University in all levels.

Mr. Paras Khadka, Graduate student of Mechanical Engineering Department at Kathmandu University who recently participated in Japan Study Program 2012 organized by MEXT- Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, science and Technology of Government of Japan shared the first hand information about the current status of universities in Japan and the value of studying and experiences in Japan in the revival process from the extraordinarily large scale disaster. The program was also attended by other participants from Padma Kanya Campus, Institute of Engineering Pulchowk, Institute of Medicine, Maharajgunj, Tri Chandra College,  who went to Japan under same program.

The program opened with the welcoming notes by Dr. Bim Prasad Shrestha, Head, Department of Mechanical engineering and Dr. Bhadra Man Tuladhar, Registrar of the University delivered the vote of thanks.
of Prof. Dr. Panna Thapa, Deans of School of Engineering and School of Science respectively, Mr. Mukunda Prasad Upadyhyaya, Chief Administrative Officer along with University faculty, staffs were also present in the program. About 250 students from school of Engineering, school of science, school of medical science and Kathmandu University high school participated in the program.
