Kathmandu University held a Ceremony at the main campus to mark the beginning of its year-long Silver Jubilee celebration.
The University was established by an Act of Parliament on 11 December 1991.
The University plans to celebrate the year 2016 as its Silver Jubilee Year. A Silver Jubilee Celebration Organizing Committee has been formed under the chairmanship of the Chancellor, Rt. Hon'ble Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. Different sub-committees have also been formed as per the nature of work.
Some of the programs envisioned include establishing Silver Jubilee Logo, inaugurating newly constructed buildings and constructing new ones, establishing Silver Jubilee Tower, felicitating well-known national and international scholars, organizing presentation programs with scholars from different fields, organizing KU Oration, exhibiting academic works of KU Family, publishing Silver Jubilee Souvenir and books, and organizing various sports and cultural programs.
Rt. Hon'ble President Bidhya Devi Bhandari, who graced the Ceremony as the Chief Guest, marked the inauguration of Silver Jubilee by unveiling the Silver Jubilee Logo and inaugurated the newly constructed buildings. Rt. Hon'ble Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, the Chancellor of the University, chaired the Ceremony, and laid the foundation stone of the Silver Jubilee Tower.
The Inaugural Ceremony included enlightening speeches of Hon'ble Minister for Education Giriraj Mani Pokhrel, Prof. Suresh Raj Sharma, the Founding Vice Chancellor of KU, Mr. Daman Nath Dhungana, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and Prof. Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha, Vice Chancellor.
Several cultural presentations were held on the occasion along with plantation of plants of variety of species. Renowned personalities, heads of district offices along with local residents and KU Family showed their gracious presence and participation in the ceremony.
काठमाडौँ विश्वविद्यालयको रजत महोत्सव आजदेखि औपचारिक रूपमा प्रारम्भ भएको छ । सन् १९९१ मा संसद्बाट काठमाडौँ विश्वविद्यालय ऐन पारित गरिएपछि यस विश्वविद्यालयको स्थापना भएको थियो ।
काठमाडौँ विश्वविद्यालयले सन् २०१६ लाई रजत महोत्सव वर्षका रूपमा भव्यतापूर्वक मनाउने निर्णय गरेको छ । त्यसका लागि यस विश्वविद्यालयका कुलपति सम्माननीय प्रधानमन्त्री श्री केपी शर्मा ओलीज्यूको अध्यक्षतामा रजत महोत्सव समारोह आयोजक मूल समिति बनाइएको छ । कामको प्रकृतिअनुसारका विभिन्न उपसमितिहरू पनि गठन गरिएका छन् ।
सन् २०१६ लाई काठमाडौँ विश्वविद्यालयको रजत महोत्सवका रूपमा वर्षैभरि मनाउने क्रममा यस विश्वविद्यालयले विभिन्न कार्यक्रमहरू गर्ने भएको छ । रजत महोत्सव प्रतीक चिह्न (लोगो) को निर्माण गर्ने, नवनिर्मित भवनको समुद्घाटन गर्ने र अन्य भवनको निर्माण गर्ने, रजत महोत्सव स्तम्भको निर्माण गर्ने, स्वदेशी–विदेशी विशिष्ट विद्वान्हरूलाई सम्मान गर्ने, विभिन्न विधामा दक्षता प्राप्त गरेका नेपालका विशिष्ट विद्वान्हरूबाट प्रवचन कार्यक्रम गराउने, KU Oration आयोजना गर्ने, विश्वविद्यालय परिवारका कृतिहरूको प्रदर्शनी गर्ने, रजत वर्ष स्मारिका प्रकाशन गर्ने, पुस्तकहरू प्रकाशन गर्ने, साहित्यिक र साङ्गीतिक कार्यक्रमहरू आयोजना गर्ने, खेलकुद लगायत अतिरिक्त क्रियाकलापहरू सञ्चालन गर्ने आदि कार्यहरू सन् २०१६ भरि नै भइरहनेछन् ।
त्यसै क्रममा आज सम्माननीय राष्ट्रपति विद्यादेवी भण्डारीज्यूको प्रमुख आतिथ्यमा रजत महोत्सवको शुभारम्भ समारोह सम्पन्न भयो । सम्माननीय प्रधानमन्त्री तथा यस विश्वविद्यालयका कुलपति श्री केपी शर्मा ओलीज्यूको अध्यक्षतामा सम्पन्न आजको समारोहमा राष्ट्रपतिज्यूले रजत महोत्सव प्रतीकचिह्न (लोगो) को अनावरण गरी रजत महोत्सवको शुभारम्भ गर्नुभयो । उहाँले नवनिर्मित भवनको समुद्घाटन पनि गर्नुभयो । यसै गरी सम्माननीय प्रधानमन्त्री तथा कुलपतिज्यूले रजत महोत्सव स्तम्भको शिलान्यास गर्नुभयो ।
आजको विशेष समारोहमा माननीय शिक्षामन्त्री तथा सहकुलपति श्री गिरिराजमणि पोखरेल, संस्थापक उपकुलपति डा. सुरेशराज शर्मा र संरक्षण समितिका अध्यक्ष श्री दमननाथ ढुङ्गानाले सारगर्भित मन्तव्य व्यक्त गर्नुभएको थियो भने उपकुलपति प्रा. डा. रामकण्ठ माकजू श्रेष्ठले विचारोत्तेजक र उत्प्रेरक स्वागत मन्तव्य व्यक्त गर्नुभएको थियो ।
समारोहमा यस विश्वविद्यालयको सङ्गीत विभागले साङ्गीतिक प्रस्तुतिहरू गरेको थियो भने विभिन्न जातका बिरुवाहरू रोपिएका थिए । समारोहमा देशका विशिष्ट व्यक्तित्वहरू, जिल्लाका कार्यालय प्रमुखहरू, स्थानीय समुदाय र विश्वविद्यालय परिवारको उपस्थिति थियो ।
