As part of an International training program organized
jointly by Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and
Swedish Hydrological and Meteorological Institute (SMHI), Mr. Manoj Badu,
lecturer at the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering of
Kathmandu University, presented his research findings on the topic entitled
“Assessment of the impact of climate change on human health: A study on the
status and trends of malaria and diarrhea with temperature and rainfall
variability in Nepal” at a regional seminar in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso,
Africa during Nov. 22 -26, 2010. The research explored the status and trends of
those diseases in the last three decades in three major ecological zones of
Nepal. The regional seminar was attended by participants from 15 different
countries from four different continents in the world. The program also
involved field visits to various communities in Burkina Faso aimed at learning
the Agroforestry and agricultural practices in the region.
