A Letter of Agreement (LoA) was signed between School of Science, Kathmandu University (SoS, KU) and Local Initiatives for Biodiversity, Research and Development (LI-BIRD) on 18th January, 2026. The Dean of School of Science Prof. Dr. Bed Mani Dahal and the Executive Director of LI-BIRD Mr. Bharat Bhandari signed the LoA to collaborate for integrating the agroecological principles and approaches into education system by conducting 3 credits course “AGMS 532 - Agroecology and Food Systems”, jointly developed by KU and Green Evolution project Team [LI-BIRD, ANSAB, WHH Nepal] and establishing a Living Lab at KU premises. The Department of Agriculture at Kathmandu University will implement this project, under which 200 students will be trained on Agroecology and Food System until December 2027.

During the ceremony it was also discussed to explore the possibility of future collaboration for developing agriculture technologies in coordination across the departments of Kathmandu University. The event was participated by Dr. Kumar Lama (acting Head of Department) and Mr. Roshan Subedi (Lecturer) from KU’s Department of Agriculture, Ms. Rita Gurung (Strategic Programme Lead -Food and Nutrition Security) and Mr. Raybon Shrestha (Admin and Finance officer) from LI-BIRD.
