The Department of Health Informatics, Kathmandu University School of Engineering, organized a project presentation and defense at the Integrated Health Information Management Section (IHIMS), Management Division of the Department of Health Services (DoHS), Ministry of Health and Food Safety, where second-year second-semester students presented the digital health systems they developed as part of the course.
The students showcased six projects designed to address real healthcare needs: a Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS), a GIS-based Disease Surveillance and Early Warning & Response System (EWARS), a Hospital Queue Management System, a Medication Reminder System, a Hospital Management System, and a Pharmacy Inventory Management System.
The projects were developed under the supervision of Mr. Santosh Khanal, Acting Head of the Department of Health Informatics, and Mr. Dipesh Khadka, Lecturer at the department. During the project defense, the students presented their work before Mr. Ritu Pantha, Section Head at the Integrated Health Information Management Section (IHIMS), DoHS, and his team, who provided valuable feedback on the systems' design, interoperability, implementation, and their potential application within Nepal's public health system
The interaction allowed students to engage directly with health information system professionals, receive expert recommendations, and gain a broader understanding of how digital solutions are planned, implemented, and integrated into national health services. The visit also provided an opportunity for discussions between the IHIMS, DoHS and the DoHI, KU, on strengthening future collaboration through student projects, research, internships, and other academic activities, further supporting Nepal's growing digital health ecosystem.
