With the leadership of School of Engineering, Kathmandu University along with different stakeholders successfully organized the 5th International Conference on Developments in Renewable Energy Technology 2018 (ICDRET'18) from March 29-31, 2018 at Hotel Radisson in Kathmandu, Nepal. The other organizing partners were: National Planning Commission, Ministry of Population and Environment, Ministry of Science and Technology, Nepal Academy of Science and Technology, Alternative Energy Promotion Centre, University Grants Commission Nepal, Institute of Engineering of Tribhuvan University, Energize Nepal, GIZ/German Embassy/KfW, Renewable Energy Confederation Nepal, Nepal Electricity Authority, People Energy & Environment Development Association, Nepal Engineers’ Association, Independent Power Producers Nepal, Low Carbon Energy for Development Network supported by DFID Transforming Energy Access Program, UK and United International University in Dhaka, Bangladesh, is organizing the ICDRET’18. The technical co-sponsorship is provided by IEEE Power & Energy Society. The previous events of the series were organized by United International University in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is planned that after this grand event in Nepal, the ICDRET series will be continued in different countries in every two-year interval.

The main agenda of the conference was to advocate the Government of Nepal for the initiation of “Energy Decade 2075-85” with the slogan “Every House: Energy House”. In the conference, there were 16 parallel sessions, 2 key note speeches, and 2 plenary talks. Eighty eight papers were presented by distinguished participants from more than 25 countries of six continents. The three-day conference was inaugurated by the Minister of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST) and the Valedictory session was concluded by the Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation (MoEWRI). One of the mission of the conference was to raise awareness among common people on the use of renewable energy technology, which is the 7^th Goal of United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, and thus making ourselves able to adapt any kind of adversities in Nepal. More than three hundred participants’ views were reflected in the ‘General Recommendation’ of the conference during the Valedictory session. It is our utmost pride to mention here that the MoEWRI has recently published its “White Paper” in which the Goal of Government of Nepal for “Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali” will be achieved by implementing the decade 2075-85 ‘Energy and Water Resources Decade. It also mentions ‘Every House: Energy House’ and ‘Every Community: Energy Community’ which are also the best reflection of the conference outcome. We strongly hope that the Government of Nepal will implement its goal successfully. The conference was managed by a team of 14 members of Local Organizing Committee, which was chaired and convened by Prof. Dr. Ramesh Kumar Maskey. The conference was patronized by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha.
