Kathmandu University Department of Health Informatics (KUDOHI), successfully conducted a FHIR Training Workshop for the Master’s in Health Informatics students. The workshop was organized in collaboration with representatives from Nyaya Health Nepal and Tinker Technologies. The session was moderated by Mr. Dipesh Khadka, a lecturer in the Department of Health Informatics.

Mr. Sunil Parajuli from Tinker Technologies and Mr. Sajit Manandhar from Nyaya Health delivered the sessions, providing an insightful overview of FHIR and its evolution into a cornerstone of modern healthcare technology. The training highlighted how FHIR enables seamless data exchange across Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems, Electronic Health Record (EHR) platforms, and other digital health solutions.

The workshop also included hands-on, practical training, where participants learned to interact with FHIR APIs, with a focus on real-world integration scenarios. Students practiced exchanging health insurance and patient-related data with openIMIS, the national system used by the Health Insurance Board of Nepal, demonstrating how interoperability between EMR/EHR systems and national health insurance platforms can strengthen healthcare service delivery.

This engagement helped students deepen their understanding of digital health standards, interoperability frameworks, and the practical implementation of these frameworks within Nepal’s evolving health information ecosystem.
