Kathmandu University Hosts World Bank Delegation to Discuss Digital Innovation and IT Infrastructure

Kathmandu University (KU), School of Engineering, hosted a high-level delegation, including a representative of the World Bank on January 28, 2026, to discuss the future of digital innovation at Kathmandu University and in Nepal.

The delegation was led by the Dean of the School of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Manish Pokharel, and the meeting brought together Heads of Departments from Computer Science and Engineering, the Department of Artificial Intelligence, along with the faculty members.

The discussions focused on strengthening the IT infrastructure of higher educational institutions and preparing Kathmandu University to meet global IT university standards.

Key Highlights of the Visit

  • Digital Infrastructure Development: Discussions on KU’s existing digital infrastructure and strategic plans to strengthen its technological foundations.
  • Incubation, Innovation, and Research: Exploration of new pathways for incubation centers, innovation ecosystems, and collaborative research initiatives.
  • Empowering Educators: Deliberations on a specialized teacher training program in IT and AI-based pedagogy, to be developed in partnership with UGC Nepal.

As part of the visit, the delegation toured KU’s key digital support facilities, including the Information System Management Section, the IoT Laboratory, and the Supercomputer facility at the Nepal Technology Innovation Center (NTIC), gaining firsthand insight into KU’s digital and research capabilities.
