Turbine Testing Lab organized 7th International Symposium on Current Research in Hydraulic Turbines (CRHT-VII) on 4th April, 2017 in Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel. CRHT is an effort of Turbine Testing Lab to create a platform for aspiring researchers from hydropower sector to share their ideas and information regarding their research activities.
The event started with the welcome speech by Dr. Hari Prasad Neopane, Member Secretary at TTL and Assoc. Prof. and HOD at DOME, followed by presentations of Dr. Biraj Singh Thapa on recent activities and future directions of the lab. Mr. Tom Solberg, MD of ICH, Norway gave the key note speech about the activities of ICH. Prof. Tri Ratna Bajracharya, Dean of Institute of Engineering, gave remarks about the potential collaboration between KU and TU. Prof. Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha, Vice Chancellor at Kathmandu University delivered the inaugural speech about the importance of research in academic sector. It was followed by featured presentations of Mr. Hitendra Dev Shakya, Prof. Baoshan Zhu, Prof. B.K. Gandhi and Mr. I.M. Deshar representing Nepal Electricity Authority, Tshingua University, IIT Roorkee and Himal Power Ltd. respectively.
In the technical session, there were in total, 17 presentations, which was divided into 2 thematic area: The first one was called Development of test rig, tool and system. In this theme, the presentations were mostly focused on establishing an excellence for design, manufacturing and testing in the field of renewable energy. This session was chaired by Prof. B. K. Gandhi and Dr. Meg B. Bishwakarma from Hydro Lab. The second thematic area was called Modeling, Simulation and Experimental Techniques. This theme was more focused on measurements of several parameters related to hydraulic turbines based on numerical methods and experiments. This session was chaired by Prof. Baoshan Zhu and Prof. Hari Prasad Neopane. Each session was concluded with the certificate distributions.
Prof. B. K. Gandhi provided the summary of the sessions giving best wishes to all the researchers. Prof. Bhola Thapa, Registrar of Kathmandu University gave remarks about the significance of this event. Prof. Bhupendra B. Chhetri, Dean of School of Engineering finally gave the closing speech with vote of thanks to all the participants, presenters, organizers, volunteers and sponsors.
The event was coordinated by volunteers of Mechanical engineering and was emceed by Ms. Pragati Poudel and Ms. Kritika Bhandari.
