The Department of Health Informatics, School of Engineering, organized a guest lecture for both 1st and 2nd batch students of the Bachelor in Health Informatics program. The lecture was delivered by Mr. Pranjal, an international professor from India and an academic associated with leading institutions in technology and management.
Mr. Pranjal is a B.Tech graduate in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kanpur (1996) and holds a Master of Science from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, USA. He has also completed postgraduate education in business from the Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad, and Tsinghua University’s School of Economics and Management, Beijing. He has served as visiting faculty at IIIT Lucknow, teaching subjects such as Data Mining, Operations Management, and Optimization Techniques.
The lecture introduced students to key concepts of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and data analytics with relevance to healthcare. Topics included linear regression, classification, labeled and unlabeled data, supervised learning, neural networks, convolutional neural networks (CNNs), cost functions, data prediction, generative AI, large language models (LLMs), and health data analysis.
Drawing from his academic and international industry experience across the USA, UK, China, and India, Mr. Pranjal explained how AI models and data-driven methods are used to analyze health data, support predictions, and improve decision-making in healthcare systems. He also highlighted the role of optimization and operations management in improving efficiency and outcomes.
Overall, the guest lecture provided students with a clear and practical understanding of modern AI technologies and their applications in health informatics, while offering valuable exposure to international academic and professional perspectives.
