GES Celebrated International GIS day

Geomatics Engineering Society (GES) successfully conducted the World GIS Day 2017 on November 15 in collaboration with Nepal Geomatics Engineering Society (NGES). The students of Geomatics Engineering organized the program as a representative from Nepal inviting all other respective organizations working in the field of GIS such as Build Change, Survey Department, NAXA Pvt. Ltd, ADMC Pvt. Ltd, GIS Pvt. Ltd and so on. The special guest in the program was Mr. Ashok Kumar Byanju, the Mayor of Dhulikhel Municipality.

 

Similarly, Mr. Ganesh Prasad Bhatta, Director General of the Survey Department, was the chief guest. Moreover, Prof. Dr. Narendra Raj Khanal (Head of Department of Geology, TU), Mr. Narayan Regmi (Executive Director of Land Management Training Centre), Ms. Shanti Basnet (Director of Department of Land Information and Archive) were the guests of the program. The program was started with the opening remarks from the Head of Department of Civil and Geomatics Engineering, Asst. Prof. Dr. Prachand Man Pradhan. In the program all the students, faculty and the professionals discussed the use of GIS in different fields like hydropower, forest fire risk analysis, climate change, land use classification, earthquake assessment, ice melt measure and even the emerging concept trending in Nepal i.e. Smart City. The major events of the programs were: GeoSpace Magazine Launch, Mapathon event together with local bodies of Dhulikhel Municipality, Project Demonstration, Stalls of different companies showing their geospatial tools and technologies, Treasure Hunt and many more. Major topics of the talk were "Role of open data in development", "Role of GIS in integrated development of local levels", "GIS in academia and research at Kathmandu University."Overall, the program was successfully conducted on the theme “Think globally act locally”.Mr. Sujan Sapkota, Vice-President of Geomatics Engineering Society was the event Co-ordinator.
