Field Visit to Laharepauwa Health Post for Telemedicine Services

Students from the first batch of the Bachelor in Health Informatics program, Department of Health Informatics, School of Engineering, along with faculty member Mr. Dipesh Khadka and graduate student Mr. Sijal Rupakheti, conducted a field visit to Laharepauwa Health Post, Uttargaya Rural Municipality–4, Rasuwa.

The visit aimed to observe the overall healthcare situation in a remote setting including the practical implementation of telemedicine services. During the visit, students explored telemedicine infrastructure, supporting software, and tools used for patient data management and remote consultations. From the side of Uttargaya Rural Municipality, the visit was facilitated by the Chairperson of the Rural Municipality, Mr. Madhav Prasad Aryal, along with Mr. Keshab Raj Bista and Mr. Balaram Neupane.

Key learning areas included system interoperability, data integration, and real-world challenges such as infrastructure limitations, connectivity issues, human resource constraints, and data management. The visit also highlighted the important role of Health Informatics students in designing, managing, and improving health information systems, supporting interoperability, enhancing data quality, and contributing to the sustainable implementation of telemedicine services in rural healthcare facilities. Overall, the visit strengthened students’ practical understanding and provided valuable real-world exposure.
