Dr. Sharma Honored by Vocational Excellence Award!!

Rt. Hon'ble President of Nepal Dr. Ram Baran Yadav conferred to Dr. Suresh Raj Sharma, Vice Chancellor of Kathmandu University, by Gopal-Kamala Raj Bhandari Rotary Award for Vocational Excellence for 2012-13 for his contribution to the education sector of Nepal  in a function organized by Rotary International-Nepal at Shital Niwas on Tuesday, 20 November, 2012.

The award, which carries a purse of Rs. 1 million, was established in 2012, and is considered one of the biggest social service awards in Nepal.

A five member selection committee headed by former Chief Justice Anup Raj Sharma has recommended to Dr. Sharma for this prestigious award for his enormous contribution to education sector particularly for establishing training centers and academic institutions like Kathmandu University, and Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) to provide training and quality education in the country.

Accepting the great of honor, Dr. Sharma thanked to the organizers and recalled his past experiences that he had encountered during his almost five decade long professional career.

Kathmandu University which he has established and served with the capacity of Vice Chancellor for 21 years is not only the successful institution that he created in the country. Other success stories credited to him were the establishment of Science and Technology Campus, Dharan; Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT); and Kathmandu Valley Campus.

Dr. Sharma recalled his earlier days when he was deputed to serve as a Member- Secretary of Higher Education Committee under the Ministry of Education; he took initiation to establish Technical and Vocational Training Centers in different remote areas like Jumla, Jiri, Dhankuta, Lahan and so on. These centers were not only succeeded to establish on such remote areas rather were succeeding to produce mid-level skilled workers for nation development process.

President of Rotary International Mr. Sakuji Tanaka, and Rotarians were present in the award ceremony.
