Department of Computer Science and Engineering Conducted One Day Symposium on AI4SD

Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DoCSE), Kathmandu University (KU) conducted one day symposium on Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development (AI4SD) on May 24, 2019 at KU. The objectives of this event is to examine the role of AI in poverty reduction, quality education, develop standard of living which directly influences economic growth of Nepal and reduce/forecast manmade as well as natural disasters. AI is highly significant to achieve sustainable development of intelligent buildings in Nepal. On 25 September 2015,193 countries of the UN General Assembly adopted a proposal on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) consisting of 17 goals with 169 targets as the 2030 Development Agenda titled “Transforming our world”.

KU Registrar Prof. Dr. Subodh Sharma as Chief Guest formally inaugurated this program. The speakers of this event during opening session were Dr. Bal Krishna Bal, Head of DoCSE, Mr. Hemant Kumar Chaurasia, President Computer Association Nepal, Er. Ganesh Shah, Former Minister, Nepal Government, Prof. Surya Dhungel, Legal Expert, Dr.Bindu Lohani, President Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Mr. Dharma Swarnakar from UNDP. Other speakers of this Symposium were Mr. Ananda Raj Khanal, Senior Director, Nepal Telecom Authority, Bipin Lekhak, Shashanka Prajapati and Bijay Gurung from Fusemachines and Prof. Dr. Manish Pokharel, DoCSE, Kathmandu University. ...
