Delegates of Norwegian Embassy Visit KU

The University hosted 28 delegates from Royal Norwegian Embassy including the Norwegian Ambassador H.E. Mr. Kjell Tormod Pettersen on 3 December 2014 in a 3-hour morning program, addressing collaboration history between Norway and KU-Nepal.

The program started with a welcome note and program overview by Dr. Hari Prasad Neopane, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He also discussed the long-term collaboration between KU and NORAD including the establishment of Turbine Testing Lab at KU. This presentation was followed by a series of other presentations from various Departments and Schools of KU, which focused on the good relationship that exists between Norway and KU at different sectors.

 

 

Mr. Brijesh Adhikary, Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering shed lights on the Masters and PhD level programs conducted in collaboration between KU and Norwegian Universities in terms of faculty and student exchange schemes. Likewise, Prof. Dr. Roshan Man Bajracharya of School of Science, KU, spoke about Aquatic Ecology Center, which is focusing on improving academic activities through research and scientific networking. Dr. Bal Chandra Luitel highlighted the collaborative programs being carried out in School of Education. This was followed by the presentation of Dr. Rajendra Koju, Associate Dean, School of Medical Sciences. The presentation series ended with discussion by Mr. Tore Skeie, a representative of Himal Partner, who emphasized the cooperation through Norwegian Civil Society.

 

 

The presentation session was followed by a discussion session, where issues related to institutional role in community development and national cooperation were raised. The program was acknowledged by the Norwegian Ambassador, giving a positive remark of how the ongoing relationship between the two countries should continue. The presentation and discussion program concluded with a thought by Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa, blending the past and present activities and reflecting the two-decade collaboration between KU and Norway and reflecting on possible ways to move forward. A photo session held outside the library block was followed by visits to labs and offices of the University including Inge Johansen Engineering Block, High Voltage Lab, TTL, AEC and the International Hostel.
