BYD and Kathmandu University Inaugurate Electric Vehicle Charging Station,Strengthening Collaboration for Sustainable Growth

Kathmandu University (KU) and Cimex Inc. Pvt. Ltd., BYD took a major step toward promoting sustainable development with the inauguration of a 33 kW DC Fast Charging Station at Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel. The charging station was officially inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa, Vice Chancellor of KU, and Mr. Liu Xueliang, General Manager of BYD's Asia-Pacific auto sales division This installation is a great achievement towards the green technology and energy solutions in the academic setting of KU.

In addition to the charging station, BYD has donated core EV components for KU's research and teaching activities. Specifically, the 8-in-1 Power Domain Controller for BYD Atto 3, On-Board Charger and DC-DC Converter for BYD E6 as well as Right and Left Body Domain Controllers. The components will be used in setting up of the lab at KU and will support students and researchers to work with state-of-the-art modern EV technologies.

“Our objective is to help cool the earth by 1 degree Celsius, and with partnerships like this, we hope to speed up the world's carbon free transportation evolution. Organizations in the educational sector have a significant responsibility in the promotion of sustainable development. Kathmandu University is our partner and we want to offer students practical experience and the usage of innovative technologies in the evolving electric car market.,” said Mr. Liu Xueliang. He also emphasized that BYD has solved the carbon emission problem that millions of trees could solve.

As a result of this collaboration, KU is expected to be greatly benefitted by BYD in terms of industry exposure. Students, researchers and faculty members are going to have real-life learning in one of the fastest growing Electric Vehicle markets. BYD will be conducting guest lectures, practical sessions, internships at their company premise, and access to advanced tools used in vehicles for research. The purpose is to prepare the students of KU for the emerging green technology market in Nepal and around the globe.

Vice Chancellor of Kathmandu University, Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa, emphasized the significance of this collaboration, stating, “This partnership with BYD is a major step towards integrating sustainable energy solutions into our academic curriculum. It will equip our students with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to the future of green technology in Nepal.”

Dr. Ram Lama, the Coordinator of Academia-Industry Cooperation, at KU, also shared his enthusiasm about the future of this partnership, as it is planned that an EV Technical Lab, as well as an EV Research and Development Center, will be established at Kathmandu University with the technical and equipment support from BYD. “This is not only a step forward in the development of electric vehicles but also in making the world a better place for the generations to come,” Dr. Lama added. With these objectives, KU and BYD are together creating a better and greener world through the education and technology.
