The second phase of the 28th Convocation of Kathmandu University was held at the Central Premises Dhulikhel on June 11, 2023. With 1,240 students graduating from different schools and programs, the school is proudly graduating more women this year and proved its determination for equal access to education. This grand program was attended by the Rt. Honorable Prime Minister and Chancellor of the University Mr. Puspa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Minister for Education, Science and Technology and Pro-Chancellor of the University, Mr. Ashok Kumar Rai, Minister of State for Education, Science and Technology, Ms. Pramila Kumari, Prof. Dr. Rajan Welukar, Vice-Chancellor-ATLAS Skilltech University, India as the Chief Guest and the board of trustees of the University.

The convocation program was commenced with Swastivachana by the students of Naimisharanya Sanskrit Gurukul followed by a welcome speech by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa. He addressed Nepal’s ever-growing trend of education migration. He highlighted it by saying, “The prevalence of excellent institutions of higher education has failed to stop the exodus of young minds is not due to the lack of quality education but rather bleak employment prospects that lie ahead once students get their degrees.” The chief guest Prof. Dr. Rajan Welukar, who had arrived from India to congratulate the graduates made several references to the ancient scriptures, advised the students to “speak the truth, be true to yourself and values.”

Rt. Honorable Prime Minister and the Chancellor of the University, Puspa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ said, “Government’s main priority is to make Nepal a possible hub for higher education in Engineering, Medicine, Communication and Digital Technology, Environmental Science and other subjects because the government’s commercial policy has also identified education services as an area of exportable potential.”

The convocation program awarded certificates to the 35 students from the School of Arts, 57 from the School of Education, 365 from the School of Engineering, 50 from the School of Management, 565 from the School of Medical Sciences, 167 from the School of Science and 1 from the School of Law who have graduated today. Out of the total graduates, 628 are women and 73 are nationals of different foreign countries.

Before the convocation ceremony the Rt. Honorable Prime Minister and the Chancellor of the University inaugurated the newly constructed building of Kathmandu University School of Law.
