Neel Kamal Chapagain joined Kathmandu University in Shrawan 2082 B.S. (July/August 2025) as a professor of Architecture, after spending 12 years at Ahmedabad University as a professor and earlier director of Centre for Heritage Management. At Ahmedabad, he was instrumental in setting up a graduate programme in heritage management (launched in 2015) and a Journal of Heritage Management (launched in 2016) as well as initiating an international conference series on Heritage Management Education and Practice (in 2017). Prior to Ahmedabad, he was a full time faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (USA). His most recent global engagements (in 2025) have been in Mongolia – as an international facilitator for the pilot phase of Mongolia Heritage Programme, Philippines – as a tutor of a short course and a seminar speaker, South Korea – as a lecturer in a workshop, and Japan – as a mentor to early career researchers, and Vietnam – as an invited speaker. He is a member of UNESCO's Network of Global Facilitators for Intangible Cultural Heritage, and has faciliated a few UNESCO capacity building programmes as well.
