Uttam Budhathoki got his BPharm and MPharm (Industrial Pharmacy) with First Class from Kathmandu University in 2000 and 2003 respectively. He received PhD from the university in 2011 with the partial research grant of International Foundation for Science (IFS), Sweden and Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), The Hague, The Netherlands. He completed Post Doctoral Fellowship (PDF) in Institute of Pharmacy and Molecular Biotechnology (IPMB), University of Heidelberg, Germany in 2014. He joined Department of Pharmacy as a teaching assistant in 2000.
