Research
Biography

Professor Thapa obtained BPharm (Hons.) and MPharm with First Class First from University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. He received his PhD degree in Formulation and Drug Delivery from Strathclyde University in Glasgow, United Kingdom under ORS Award Scheme administered by Universities UK. He joined Department of Pharmacy as Lecturer in March 1994. He was promoted to Full Professor in August 2007. Prior to his appointment in the Department of Pharmacy he was a Technical Manager in the Vijayadeep Pharmaceuticals Pvt Limited in Kathmandu.

Dr. Thapa is one of the founding members of the Department of Pharmacy. He was Visiting Scientist at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Strathclyde in Glasgow (2001 -2005). He has been a recipient of International Research Development Award (IRDA) from the Wellcome Trust, UK to establish a Formulation and Drug Delivery Research Lab and to conduct research in the area of Oral Controlled Release Drug Delivery in the Department of Pharmacy (2001-2004). He has also received Education Award from Ministry of Education and Crown Prince Science and Technology Youth Award from Royal Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (RONAST) for his contribution in the Pharmacy Education and Drug Delivery & Formulation respectively.

He was one of the Executive Board Members of Nepal Pharmacy Council nominated by the Government of Nepal (2001-2006). He was also Chairman of the Nepal Pharmacy council (2006-2010).

Dr. Thapa was the HOD in the Department of Pharmacy (April 2006-October 2013).

He was the Dean, KU School of Science (August 2007- June 2014).

He has been appointed Controller of Examinations of Kathmandu University since August 2013.

Professor Thapa comes from Dolpa, Karnali Province, Nepal.

Vennue Foundation awarded Professor Thapa GLOBAL PHARMACY CHAMPION AWARD 2019 in December 2019.
