Background

The transformation of idea to an enterprise is optimally possible mainly through academic institutions because college and universities are themselves a resource centers of mentors, professionals, equipment, libraries and a wide network of similar other academic institutions.

Kathmandu University has not only adapted new dimensions of study like Biotechnology, Community Education, Geomatics Engineering, Chemical Engineering etc. Now to achieve full world class University standard, technology transfer and knowledge management, an Incubation Centre within the academia has been established since 2014. The establishment and startup of Business Incubation will motivate students and researcher working inside bricks of laboratories to expand and explore their potential in commercial areas.

KUBIC major objective includes delivering training programs to create awareness about the importance of entrepreneurship and to develop individuals' skills to become potential entrepreneurs. This training program is organized to increase state of development of entrepreneurship education, the perceptions of entrepreneurship and how they affect the learning outcomes. The School of Science and School of Engineering in Kathmandu University has three or more credit course in Entrepreneurship and management. However, entrepreneurship education is mostly offered as distinct courses, and less as a full academic programme. Most entrepreneurship lecturers have their main teaching and/or research focus in another discipline, and that less than half of them have a real life experience in business creation and management.

 
Motivation: This training programme is designed with a special focus on faculties/ researchers/ staffs from School of Science and School of Engineering who will directly/ indirectly motivate the aspiring entrepreneurs for career in self- employment. The trainees after this program will have sufficient setting to encourage students to generate business ideas and get the support and guidance to turn them into real enterprises. This initiative will be piloted within the University premise with support from internal/ external expert and institutions.

KUBIC has previously conducted some Business Development and Tools training for its incubatees and interested students. But as the situation demands a trickle-down effect through their mentors/supervisors/faculties, this training program is specially designed for faculties/ academic professional within the University. The selected participants will have to undertake the complete course in order to guide their students into future entrepreneurs. The participants will be selected on the basis of their experience in research, interest in business curriculum and industrial participation. This training program will be highly effective as it is aligned with the KUBIC objective in creating awareness and interest in technology/ knowledge transfer. The participants will have information on importance, process and effects of enterprise creation. This program will include Kathmandu University School of Management and School of Law faculties as an expert which will create an added benefit among the faculties and participants.
