Vice Chancellor delivered speech in President's forum in Thailand to mark 60th anniversary of Asian Institute of Technology

Prof. Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha, Vice Chancellor of Kathmandu University presented the concept note on how the Kathmandu University has been globally collaborating with Academia, Government, multinationals and not profit organizations to bring about social impact by research during President Forum organized at Asian Institute of Technology to mark 60th anniversary of its establishment on October 24th 2019. The program was inaugurated by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Siridhorn and the key note speech was delivered by President of Colorado State University Prof. Joyce McConnell on the journey of academic collaboration between CSU and AIT for last six decades.

During the President’s forum, the presidents of AIT Dr. Eden Woon gave the welcome remarks and first session was chaired by the President of Chulalokorn University Prof. Budhit Eua-arporn. In this session President of Harbin Institute of Technology China Prof. Zhou Yu, President of Tokyo Institute of Technology Japan Prof. Kazuya Masu, President of Koc University Turkey Prof. Umran S Inan and President of University Teheran Prof. M N Ahmdadbadi expressed how their Universities have injected innovation in research and academic practices to bring about social changes.

The second session was chaired by the Executive Vice chancellor of Duke Kunshan University Prof. Dr. Denis Simon. The speakers were Prof. Julia Buckingham, Vice Chancellor and President of Brunei University London, Prof. Ram KM Shrestha Vice Chancellor of Kathmandu University Nepal, Prof. Kil Choo Moon, President of University of Science and Technology Korea, Prof. Hideo Ohno President of Tohoku University Japan and Prof. M I bin Abdul Mutalib Vice Chancellor of University of Technology Petranas Indonesia. This session was mainly focused on global collaborations that are being carried out by their respective Universities to make social impact among its stake holders and benefactors.

The third session was chaired by Prof. Jaak Aavikso Rector of Talinn University of Technology Estonia and participated by Dr. Roger Chen President of I-Shou Univeristy, China, Prof. Tan Eng Chye President of National University of Singapore, Dain Dr. Anina B Z Abdul Aziz Vice chancellor of University of Brunei, Daarussalam and Prof. Kyosuke Nagata, president of University of Tsukuba Japan. This session was dedicated to discussion on how each of these Universities has maintained sustainability both in teaching and in campus operation.
