 A Three Day International Webinar

The Research and Innovation Center at the School of Education Kathmandu University collaborating with the M Phil in English Language Education (ELE) (third semester) organized an International Webinar on the Current Research Trends in English Language Education (Season 3) from  7 July to 9 July, 2021 from 16:00 to 19:00 Nepal Time. Three national and international guest speakers gave presentations on the issues of Language Education. On 7th July 2021, Prof. Dayaram Poudel, Campus Chief of Birendra Multiple Campus, Bharatpur, Chitwan, Nepal, delivered his guest speech on “Elements of Research Article”. Likewise, on 8

th July, 2021, Dr. Akkarapon Nuemaihom, from Buriram Rajabhat University, Thailand delivered his guest speech on “Development of Pronunciation Skills Using Phonetics Packages: A Case of English Majors at Rajabhat University, Thailand”. Similarly, on 9th July, 2021, Prof. Dr. Ramkishan Bhise from Graduate School of Technology, Nerul, Navi Mumbai presented his guest speech on “Making a Move from Literacy to Electracy”. Total Participants were around 205 from Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Thailand, Myanmar, Srilanka, United Arab Emirates, Philippines, Japan and Norway.            Eleven MPhil Scholars of ELE Third Semester of Kathmandu University presented their research papers. Hota Raj Khanal  delivered the presentation on “Contextual Classroom: A Study on Modern Way of Teaching”; Buddha Raj Neupane on “Non-English Teachers’ Perspectives on English as a Medium of Instruction: A Narrative Inquiry”; Padam Neupane on “Teachers’ Perspectives and Practices towards Translanguaging in English Language Teaching”; Bimal Khatri on “Perspectives of Educational Actors, Their Perspectives on English Language Teaching and Sustainable Development Goals of Education: The Context of Nepal”; Rom Sharma on “Cross-Cultural Context in ELT: An Interpretive Inquiry”; Rim Khadaka on “Differentiated Instruction: A Practice of Secondary English Teachers”; Nilam Banjade on “Exploring Teachers’ Experiences on Speaking Anxiety of Students in English Language Classroom: Enduring Structural Barriers”; Bibha Jha on “Experience of Maithil     Women Teachers’ Using ICTs in ELT: NarrativeInquiry”; Shiva Kumar Gyawali on “Differentiated Instructions at Basic Level English Classes”; Hom Nath Sharma on “Activities for Learning English beyond the Classroom and Mohan Tigala on  “Language Politics in EFL Classroom”

Program Coordinator, Research and Innovation Center, School of Education, Kathmandu University welcomed all the valued guests and participants from home and abroad. MPhil Scholars namely Ms. Nilam Banjade, Hota Raj Khanal & Rom Sharma had played the role of the moderators. Mr. Surendra Bhatt provided the especial technical support during the webinar. Prof. Dr. Laxman Gnawali, Associate Dean, School of Education, Kathmandu University, Hattiban, Lalitpur, Nepal delivered his closing remarks.

 The Purposes of the webinar were to explore the current research issues in English Language Education and to provide the international research oriented exposure to MPhil Third Semester pursuing students.
