Talk Program Organized by KU SAP on "A Tribute to Stefan William Hawking" by Prof. Dr. Udayraj Khanal

Title: A Tribute to Stephen William Hawking n Friday 4th May, 2018, Kathmandu University Society of Applied Physics (KUSAP) organized a talk program featuring Dr. Udayaraj Khanal, Professor emeritus of Tribhuvan University and a veteran Physicist and Mathematician. The aim of the program was to remember late Prof. Stephen William Hawking, who passed away recently. Stephen William Hawking (1942 - 2018) was the former Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge and author of A Brief History of Time which is an international bestseller. His death is a great loss for whole scientific community and the world. Prof. Khanal elaborated many aspects of Hawking’s personal life, success and failures in his careers as well as major contributions in cosmology.The venue of the event was Technical Training Lab (

) in Engineering Block and more than hundred students, faculties and staffs participated in the program.

 

Dr. Khanal enlightened us with some of the basic physics behind Black hole and interesting theories like M-Theory (String theory) and Grand Unification theories (GUTs) in a very simple language. Also, he answered many queries raised by participants regarding cosmology. Finally, the program was concluded by giving token of love to Prof. Khanal by Prof. Dr. Deepak Prasad Subedi and the vote of thanks by Prof. Dr.

Kanhaiya Jha, Associate Dean of School of Science.
