On June 18, 2025, undergraduate students from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, showcased their projects in the Young Scientists' Conference 2025 – Youth for Emerging Technologies: Robotics, AI, and Drones. The event was organized by the National Youth Council Nepal in technical collaboration with the Robotics Association of Nepal (RAN), and was held at the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), Khumaltar.

A group of 12 students from the department represented their innovative spirit by presenting three impactful projects that showcased how emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Augmented Reality, and Robotics can be applied to solve real-world problems.

Project Highlights:

1. Addressing the Vocabulary Learning Rate of Autistic Children Using Augmented Reality

This project leverages Augmented Reality (AR) to support children with autism in learning vocabulary through interactive and engaging visuals. It aims to bridge gaps in traditional learning methods by using immersive technology.

Team Members: Aarya Pathak, Shreyan Wasti, Himesh Dulal, Swoham Kayastha, Safal Shrestha

2. AI Lawyer

An LLM-based virtual legal assistant designed to provide legal information and support to individuals in need. This system uses natural language models to interpret queries and offer user-friendly legal guidance, especially for those without access to formal legal aid.

Team Members: Abhiyan Dhakal, Sugat Sujakhu, Kausik Paudel, Pranish Kafle

3. Smart Arm

A smart prosthetic arm that integrates a camera and machine learning models to recognize objects and automatically adjust the 3D-printed hand grips accordingly. It offers a more intuitive and adaptive alternative to conventional prosthetics.

Team Members: Anish Timalsina, Diwas Parajuli, Santosh Yadav

The conference served as a collaborative hub for young scientists, technologists, and enthusiasts from around Nepal to discuss the transformative potential of robotics, AI, and drones. The event featured exhibitions, panel discussions, and keynote addresses from some of Nepal’s leading voices in tech and innovation.

Keynote speakers: Prof. Dr. Achyut Wagle, Vice Chancellor of Kathmandu University, delivered an inspiring address highlighting the dual nature of science:

“Science brings development but also carries risks. The new generation must learn to balance both,”— Prof. Dr. Achyut Wagle

He emphasized that technology should lead Nepal’s next economic revolution, urging youth to connect scientific innovation with entrepreneurship. His message encouraged young minds to create sustainable, real-world solutions through emerging technologies like AI, robotics, and drones.

In a panel discussion, Prof. Dr. Sudan Jha, Faculty of DoCSE, Kathmandu University, posed a critical question: “Academics – is it enough?”

He emphasized the urgent need for lab-based learning, research and development, and curriculum reform to better equip students for real-world technological challenges.

Mr. Suman Shrestha, Lecturer, DoCSE, coordinated students and their projects at the Conference. The participation of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering was a proud moment, with students demonstrating both technical expertise and a strong commitment to social impact.

Special thanks to the National Youth Council Nepal and the Robotics Association of Nepal (RAN) for providing this inspiring platform for young innovators.
