Professor Bikash Nakarmi meets Vice Chancellor Professor Achyut Prasad Wagle to discuss joint research incubation at Kathmandu University

On July 25, 2025 Professor Bikash Nakarmi, Nanjing University of Aeronautics & Astronautics meets Vice Chancellor Professor Achyut Prasad Wagle, Kathmandu University exploring practical ways of bridging logistics gaps through Low-Altitude Economy, Nepal. Acting Head, Dr. Pankaj Raj Dawadi, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Associate Professor Dr. Reshma Shrestha, Department of Geomatics Engineering participated in the meeting held at Kathmandu University School of Management.

Professor Nakarmi visited Kathmandu University on June 06, 2025 where he interacted with Acting Head of Department Dr. Pankaj Raj Dawadi and faculties of DoCSE.  He shared insights on optical computing, biosensing, photonic, radar, and AI-enabled technologies during the interaction session. Professor also met Vice Chancellor Professor Achyut Prasad Wagle, Kathmandu University discussing potential collaboration in drone innovation, technical research, and student empowerment activities at Kathmandu University.

On July 25, Professor Nakarmi discussed about collaboration between two institutions revolving around Low altitude economy for Nepal. Professor presented the prospect of RCLAE: Research Center Of Low Altitude Economy for Nepal. In the presentation challenges and opportunities of low altitude economy focusing Nepal was highlighted.  A nine stages framework of bridging the logistics gap via Kathmandu University was presented.

Kathmandu University can be a key stakeholder in research and innovation in solving the challenges like disaster response, wildlife monitoring, fire control, faster emergency logistics, precision agriculture, etc. Kathmandu University can play a crucial role in leading joint research projects like Fire and Rescue Drones, Seeding Drones, focusing on accessibility, sustainability and innovation.

The meeting ended on a positive note where both institutions are committed to working together in materailizing this idea into working research projects. Vice Chancellor Professor Wagle shared his positive remarks to fthe aculties present and Professor Nakarmi for this ongoing effort. Both institutions will meet further to discuss next steps to formailze the collaboration.
