Professional Learning Course in Sanitation - Program Completion Ceremony

KATHMANDU, 15 NOVEMBER 2021: The Professional Learning Course in Sanitation (PLCS) at Kathmandu University, delivered to a group of 20 administrators and engineers of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City Office (KMCO) has been completed in Nepal.

To mark this event, Kathmandu University (KU) organized a program completion ceremony with guests like Prof. Dr. Shobhakar Dhakal (Vice President of Academic Affairs - Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand), Mr. Rajeshwor Gyawali (Chief Administrative Officer - KMCO), Dr. Bindu Nath Lohani (Former Vice President - Asian Development Bank, the Philippines), and other distinguished sanitation stakeholders.

Mr. Gyawali affirmed similar collaborations in the future with education and research institutions like Kathmandu University. He believes that the PLCS participants will utilize their learnings from the course for improving the urban sanitation services of the municipality.

Prof. Dr. Dhakal claimed it to be a good indication for KMCO arranging such professional programs for the capacity building of their staff that will help in the improvement of the citywide urban planning. Similarly, Dr. Lohani also joined the program through an online platform to congratulate all the participants for successful completion. He added that the field visit to other countries would give the participants a firsthand learning experience from the sanitation practices of those regions. Mr. Ashutosh Tiwari (MD, SAFAL Partners) as being one of the course instructors in the PLCS explained the nature of the PLCS classes while Mr. Suman Adhikari and Ms. Subha Pandey, two of the participants of the PLCS, shared their experience on how their working behaviour has improved since they took this course.

Prof. Dr. Bim Shrestha (Principal Investigator, GSGS Project) stated that Kathmandu University is always prepared to support the KMCO in academic and research programs. He also expressed a vote of thanks to all the attendees in the program. Mr. Suman Dhun Shrestha (GSGS Project Coordinator and Sanitation TOT from IHE Delft) shared that the transfer of the sanitation program from the global arena to Nepal has been both challenging and fruitful. Mr. Nischal Khadka (Researcher for GSGS Project) has been coordinating the overall activities of this course, PLCS.

Now a 1-week field visit to the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand remains where the participants will take part in laboratory training and also observe different sanitation practices and technologies.

The PLCS is a 4-months course in Sanitation Technology, Business, and Management which is a component of the Graduate Professional Diploma Program (GPDP) delivered under the framework of the Global Sanitation Graduate School (GSGS) Project from grant support of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City Office.
