Participation in 2022 President’s forum of Hubei-South Asian Universities

On 1st April, 2022, Kathmandu University attended the 2022 President’s forum of Hubei-South Asian Universities. The forum was organized by China Three Gorges University. In total, 27 universities from South Asia and Hubei Province of China participated the event. The conference was moderated by Prof. Huang Yingping, Vice President of the China Three Gorges University.

From Kathmandu University, the event was attended by Dr. Biraj Singh Thapa and Dr. Uddhab Pyakurel via online means. A video message from the Vice Chancellor of Kathmandu University, Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa outlined KU’s longstanding relationships with the Chinese Universities and the area of cooperation between the universities. He noted that the intellectual involvement and cooperation has aided in the strengthening of diplomatic relations as well as a stronger and better bond between the inhabitants of the two countries. He also stressed the importance of shared resources, intellectual cooperation, and research for Nepal's and the region's growth, saying that KU will welcome similar collaborations in the future.

Following the video message from the Vice Chancellor, a keynote presentation entitled “Cooperation between Kathmandu University Nepal and University in Hubei Province, China for increased Visibility and Impact” was delivered at the event by Asso. Prof. Dr. Biraj Singh Thapa. The presentation Shed light into dimensions of cooperation between Kathmandu University and Wuhan University.

Through student fellowships and faculty exchange programs, the two institutions have begun cooperating in the domains of hydropower and water resources development. The initial relationship has now evolved into a stronger partnership between the two institutions. In the form of the Hydropower Research Center for the Himalayan Region (HRCHR), the NORHED-II project on Hydro-Himalaya, and a jointly created course about turbine design and CFD, KU and Wuhan University have partnered to conduct cooperative research and execute joint initiatives.
