KU's 28th Convocation Phase I held

Kathmandu University organized its 28th Convocation (Phase I) at its central premise Dhulikhel to bestow awards for the university graduates on 15th December 2022. During the ceremony, the chancellor of Kathmandu University and prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba highlighted how Kathmandu University has been making considerable progress in providing quality education to its students. “Kathmandu University has been contributing toward Nepal’s higher education by providing quality education for the last three decades”, Deuba said.

Likewise, around 1700 graduates and their parents, and guardians were enthralled by the grand welcome speech of the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa. Addressing the financial and human resource loss of Nepal through the increasing Nepali students migrating abroad for their education. Dr. Thapa stressed the need for retaining graduates within the country. “We have planned to implement the policy of retaining a certain number of excellent graduates by offering them employment in the university itself”, Prof. Thapa said. He also encouraged the graduating scholars in shaping the future of Kathmandu University by giving their best to their professions.

The convocation had the gracious presence of Senior Physician and Cardiologist Dr. Mrigendra Raj Pandey as the chief guest of the ceremony, who addressed the graduating students with his motivational message. “Be visionary, be consultative, be critical, be persistent and be decisive”, he encouraged the graduates saying, “you are born and educated in a very worthy and fruitful time. You can experiment and apply your competencies and potential in your own country.”

The convocation was followed by the university's 94th Senate Meeting chaired by the Honorable Prime Minister and Chancellor of the University Sher Bahadur Deuba. The meeting had passed the grace list of 1,699 students of Arts, Education, Engineering, Law, Management, Science, and Medical Sciences including 8 Ph.D. and 85 MPhil. Among the graduates, there were 220 students from Arts, 202 students from Education, 26 students from Engineering, 40 students from Law, 462 students from Management, 712 students from Medical Sciences, and 37 students from Science. Foreign students accounted for 10.95 percent of the graduates, including 186 students from 14 countries including Austria, Canada, China, Germany, India, Italy, Maldives, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, and the United States of America. In the program, for the first time in the history of Kathmandu University, 6 graduates were awarded Master of Engineering in Sanitation Technology and one was awarded Master of Science in Sanitation Technology.

The function was successfully held with the participation of the Minister of Education, Science and Technology and the Pro-Chancellor of the university Devendra Paudel and Registrar Prof. Dr. Achyut Prasad Wagle, members of the university Senate, Board of Trustees and University Family, Media Persons, Distinguished guests, and parents. The university welcomed the senators with the grand convocation procession along with a standing obviation by the audience. The official convocation program started with everyone’s involvement in singing the national anthem and benedictory recital (Swasti Baachan) by the students of Naimisharanya Gurukul Banepa.
