First Civil Engineering Exhibition held in Kathmandu University
The Kathmandu University Civil Engineering Club (KUCEC) in association with the Department of Civil and Geomatics Engineering (DCGE), held its first ever annual event “SANKALPA” on 27th and 28th December 2017. The event comprised of Talk Program and “Civil Insight” Magazine Launch, Research and Undergraduate Project Expo, Architecture and Geomatics Projects, Complete Hydropower Model Demo, “SANKALPA City”, Photography Competition and Acoustic Evening.
The event received overwhelming sponsorship from various organizations with the major sponsorship from North Hydro and Engineering Pvt Ltd Hydro Mechanical Fabricator, Tikuligadh, Tilottama Municipality-18, Rupandehi, Nepal.
On 27th December, a talk program incorporating the Panel Discussion with stalwarts and experts of Civil Engineering and Hydropower, including entrepreneurs in the field of hydropower was conducted followed by the launching of the first departmental magazine “Civil Insight: A Technical Magazine”. The talk program was welcomed by Acting Head of Department, Dr. Prachand Man Pradhan and speech by Dean of SOE, Prof. Dr. Bhupendra Bimal Chhetri.
The professionals included in the panels were Er. Tara Nath Sapkota, Er. Ajaya Dixit, Er. Hitendra Dev Shakya, Dr. Subarna Das Shrestha, Er. Khimananda Kandel and KU’s alumnus Er. Ashish Shrestha. Guests from Kathford Engineering College Er. Bivek Raj Shrestha, the Deputy HoD and Coordinator of 4th year, Er. Govind Niroula were present in the program. Besides them, the Vice Chancellor of Kathmandu University Prof. Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha, Dean of School of Engineering (SoE) Prof. Dr. Bhupendra Bimal Chhetri, Director of Student Welfare Directorate Prof. Dr. Ing. Ramesh Kumar Maskey, Acting HoD Asst. Prof. Dr. Prachand Man Pradhan and other faculty members were also present. Resourceful and engaging presentations were given by Er. Ashish Shrestha, Er. Ajaya Dixit and Er. Hitendra Dev Shakya regarding hydropower development.
The Vice Chancellor graced us with his presence and delivered an eye- opening speech highlighting the significance of practical knowledge. The first ever department technical magazine “Civil Insight” was officially launched by the Vice Chancellor along with the SoE Dean, Er. Dixit and the Acting HoD. The panel discussion “Prospect and Challenges in Hydropower Development: Role of Civil Engineers”. The discussion was moderated by two fourth year Civil Engineering students: Dipendra Paneru and Sushant Poudel. Prof. Maskey took his time to congratulate the KUCEC team for their hard work.
KUCEC’s President Rupesh Baniya delivered the vote of thanks to the speakers, guests and audiences.
The program ended with the guests visiting Civil Hydraulic Lab, Civil Lab and the KU Corner with the faculty members and some students.
December 28, 2017 was marked by the project exhibition along with photography. The program was inaugurated jointly by the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Ram Kantha Makaju, Dean of SOE, Dr. Bhupendra Bimal Chhetri and the Acting HoD of DCGE, Dr. Prachand Man Pradhan. Project exhibition with projects of Civil Engineering students of 2nd 3rd and 4th year, Geomatics engineering and newly established Architecture’s 1st year were displayed which preceded a lively acoustic evening.
The major attractions of the stalls besides the projects of students were “SANKALPA City” model and an entire hydropower model made by the students of 3rd and 4th year collectively. The students of 1st year Architecture also displayed impressive and prodigious mini-projects.
