Mr. Shakya and Mr. Shrestha attend 2nd Regional Meeting of DL4D at the Philippines

Mr. Manoj Shakya and Mr. Sushil Shrestha, Assistant Professors of Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Kathmandu University, attended 2nd Regional Meeting of the Asia Research Grant Program organized by FIT-ED Philippines in Manila during 29 – 30 March 2017.
The theme of the meeting was Digital Learning for Development (DL4D). During the workshop, all the sub-grantees including Mr. Shakya and Mr. Shrestha presented their research findings.

Celebration

MOOC team celebrated the progress of the project by cutting cake on December 16, 2016. The event was attended by the project members, volunteers and several staffs of the university, who has helped during the development phase of the project.

Prof. Patricia Arinto visits Kathmandu University

Prof. Patricia Arinto, Dean, Faculty of Education, University of the Philippines – Open University, visited Kathmandu University from 8- 12 August 2016. She is the supervisor of the project called “MOOC for Higher Education in Nepal” currently running at Kathmandu University. During her visit, she met with the officials of the University. She conducted workshop on “Data Analysis and Research Design” on 9 and 10 August 2016.

MOOC Team presents in International Conference

Mr. Manoj Shakya, Assistant Professor (DoCSE) and Project Leader, Mr. Sushil Shrestha, Assistant Professor (DoCSE) and Principal Investigator and Mr. Rajesh Manandhar, Research Associate, participated and presented their research paper entitled “Awareness of MOOC Among College Students: A Study of Far Western Region of Nepal” in International Conference on e-Learning for Development. The conference was held from 30 July- 1 August at Hotel Annapurna, Kathmandu, Nepal.

Mr. Manish Joshi, Research Assistant, presented a research paper entitled “A Systematic Analysis and Synthesis of the Empirical MOOC Literature Published in 2013– 2015” on January 17, 2017 @Digital Learning Research Lab, Kathmandu University. The presentation addressed a number of gaps in the scholarly understanding of MOOCs and a comprehensive picture of the literature by examining the geographic distribution, publication outlets, citations, data collection and analysis methods, and research strands of empirical research focusing on MOOCs during the time period (2013-2015).

The two Research Assistants of MOOC project Mr. Manish Joshi and Miss. Prasamsa Khanal presented on “Why MOOC fails?” The presentation focused on various reasons for the failure of MOOC around the world. The presentation was followed by discussion on different measures that can be followed to minimize the failure rate.
