Bachelor in Community Development Programme

The Bachelor in Community Development (hereafter referred to as BCD) is a four year undergraduate programme aimed at generating leaders for community development. The programme will focus on both theory and practice developing effective and efficient human resource for nation's overall development. It aims to produce finest social change makers in the country, region and world. The students will get chance to work with different sections of the society such as children, youth, elderly, dalits, differently able people, women and key affected people due to social structures and/or because of nation's policy.
The curriculum addresses the cause of exclusions, conflict, and marginalization, policy making status quo, poverty, deprivation and exploitation and makes positive social change responding to the same. This course entails mixture of lecture, field trips, internship, action oriented project works, group works, case study analysis, workshops, seminars, discussions, presentations, research and interaction with development workers, activists, and policy makers.
The students will be exposed to different cultural, religious, political, economical, and environmental and legal aspects and equip them with appropriate attitude, skills and knowledge making them capable independent community organizers, grassroots activists, development workers, researchers, consultants and social leaders. The main focus of this course is to produce self employed human resource than job seekers. Thus, on completion of this four year programme, The Bachelor in Community Development, students will have developed competencies to work in the field of community work, welfare and development. They will be capable of intervening from service delivery activities to organizing and leading people for making positive social change to programme develop­ment to policy change.



Curriculum:

The curriculum of the UCD programme aims at imparting both theoretical knowledge in and practical exposure to various issues. The major methods used will comprise of classroom lectures, case study analyses, field surveys, seminars, results discussions and presentations, field works, . The programme will emphasize students' active participation and involvement in the learning process wherein the instructors (faculty members) would mainly be playing the role of facilitators.
